Abstract
We developed a German version of the Human Flourishing Scale
(Flourish Index, FI and Secure Flourish Index, SFI) in a multi-stage
translation and scale testing process to measure distinct domains of
subjective well-being and overall flourishing. The FI consists of
five sub-domains: happiness and life satisfaction, physical and
mental health, meaning and purpose, character and virtue, and close
social relationships. The SFI adds the sub-domain financial and
material stability, which is thought necessary to sustain the other
domains over time. The twelve-item SFI is a measure of flourishing
that is short enough to be practical in a variety of settings,
including in the workplace and in population surveys. It is
comprehensive in its assessment of the most essential domains of
“complete” well-being.
