WelfareStruggles Policy Brief Series now available online

We are pleased to announce the WelfareStruggles Policy Brief Series is now available online. This series is edited by Prof. Minh Nguyen and features short comparative assessments of a number of key issues that characterise the institutional contexts of labour mobility and welfare provision in China and Vietnam. These issues are directly implicated in the politics around the care of the migrant labour force that we are investigating in this project. The Policy Brief is written for a broad range of audience, including NGO workers, policy makers, researchers, students, and anyone interested in the similarities and differences between the Chinese and Vietnamese institutional contexts.

Öffentliche Voträge im Rahmen des ZiF-Workshops „Moving in a divided world“

Vom 11. bis zum 12. Juli 2022 findet am Zentrum für interdisziplinäre Forschung (ZiF) der Workshop „Moving in a divided world: Transnational crime, national borders and irregular migration“ statt. Wir wollen in diesem Rahmen gerne auf die beiden öffentlichen Vorträge von Gabriella Sanchez (El Paso, USA), am 11 Juli von 17:00 Uhr bis 18:15 Uhr, zum Thema „The pressure to Condemn: Researching Smuggling in the Time of Security“ und David Kyle (San Diego, USA) zu „Smuggling ‘Creativity' in the Meritocracy of Global ‘Talentism'“ am 12 Juli 2022, zwischen 17:30 Uhr und 18:30 Uhr, aufmerksam machen. Beide Vorträge können via Zoom gestreamt werden.

Am Mittwoch, dem 06. Juli 2022, wird Prof. Dr. Joanna Pfaff-Czarnecka (Professur für Sozialanthropologie im AB6) um 11:30 Uhr c.t. in Hörsaal X-E0-001 ihre Abschiedsvorlesung zum Thema „Professur als Beruf. Nicht nur autobiographische Betrachtungen“ halten.

Der Dekan der Fakultät für Soziologie lädt alle Interessierte herzlich zu diesem fakultätsöffentlichen Vortrag ein. Es besteht die Möglichkeit ab 11:15 Uhr den Vortrag live via Panopto mitzuverfolgen. Zudem wird der Vortrag aufgezeichnet und später online zur Verfügung gestellt werden.

Bericht zur Antrittsvorlesung von Antje Missbach

Am 18.05.2022 fand in Hörsaal X-E0-002 die öffentliche Antrittsvorlesung von Prof. Dr. Antje Missbach zum Thema ‚„Armchair guerillas“, „Schleuser“ & „Bootsflüchtlinge“: Überlegungen zu einer zeitgemäßen Migrationssoziologie‘ statt. Damit konnte Antje Missbach, seit dem 01.03.2020 an der Fakultät tätig, im Zuge der Auswirkungen der Corona-Pandemie nun mit etwas Verzögerung ganz offiziell als neue Professorin willkommen geheißen werden.

Johanna Paul mit Best Doctoral Paper Award ausgezeichnet

Johanna Paul, wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin in der Arbeitsgruppe „Transnationalisierung, Entwicklungs- und Migrationssoziologie“ von Prof. Thomas Faist, PhD hat auf der ASN World Convention 2022 den Best Doctoral Paper Award für die Sektion Balkan erhalten. Ihre Präsentation trägt den Titel: “Transnational Memory Activism Against Genocide Denial: Protesting the 2019 Nobel Prize in Literature to Peter Handke”.

Bașak Bilecen mit dem Karl-Arnold-Preis ausgezeichnet

Dr. Bașak Bilecen wurde von der nordrhein-westfälischen Akademie für Wissenschaft und Künste mit dem Karl-Arnold-Preis für herausragende wissenschaftliche Leistungen ausgezeichnet. Damit wurde ihre Forschungsarbeit zu internationaler Migration und sozialer Ungleichheit gewürdigt, die sie in der Arbeitsgruppe „Transnationalisierung, Entwicklung und Migration“ von Prof. Thomas Faist, PhD durchgeführt hat.

 

English Version:

Dr. Bașak Bilecen received the Karl Arnold Award from the North Rhine-Westphalian Academy for Science and the Arts. It honors her outstanding research in the field of international migration and social inequality, which she conducted in the working group Transnationalization, Development and Migration, led by Prof. Thomas Faist, PhD.
