New Publication by Phill Wilcox

The article "Doing Coffee in Luang Prabang: Fusion and the Marking of a Worlds Heritage Space" has been published by Phill Wilcox. This forms part of a special issue of Civilisations (69) "Public Spaces in Socialist East Asia: Interactions, Performativity and Citizenship", edited by V. Frangville, P.Petit and L. Richard (2020).

She will be presenting her contribution to this special issue at a conference entitled "East Asian Youth in Public Spaces" at the Université libre de Bruxelles on 26th May 2021.

Indonesia’s refugee and asylum seeker policies: responsibility, security and regionalism

This project aims to analyse the formulation and implementation of Indonesia’s laws and policy on refugees andasylum seekers, by utilising original empirical research, to understand better the ‘Indonesian state’, its perceptions and responses to these issues nationally, regionally, and under the bilateral relationship with Australia. It utilises concepts of responsibility, security and regionalism to generate new knowledge in the areas of refugee protection, human security and regionalism in Southeast Asia. Expected benefits are strengthened institutional collaboration with Indonesian academics and policy-makers and fresh thinking on responsible regional solutions for refugee protection.

Exchange Forum Regarding Global Encounters

An exchange forum between sociology faculties of Nanjing University, Vietnam National University (Hanoi) and Bielefeld University takes place on Tuesday, 19^th of January 2021 at 8am German time, 2pm Vietnam time, 3pm China time. Scholars from three institutions will briefly present their current research on a topic related to social transformations, with a view to highlighting forms of global connectivity and interactions in particular contexts.

Field of Exceptional Uncertainty: The Challenges of Early-Career Anthropologists in the Wake of the Corona Pandemic (Position Paper)

The position paper conveys the difficulties of practicing fieldwork and ethnography in times of lockdowns, travel bans, physical and social distancing to university administrations, funding agencies and also the wider public. It is the result of a collective effort by all organizers and participants of the DGSKA (German Anthropological Association) Online Autumn Academy that took place in October 2020. The attached document reads most complementary to the participants' blog contributions 'Fieldwork in Crisis'.
