Am Mittwoch, den 12. Dezember 2018 hielt Henning de Vries einen Vortrag am Zentrum für Militärgeschichte und Sozialwissenschaften der Bundeswehr (ZMSBw) in Potsdam. Der Vortrag trug den Titel "Die Vermessung des Einsatzes. Ein interventionstheoretischer Zugriff". Mit der Frage danach, wie der Einsatz vermessen werden kann, wurde ausgehend von der empirischen Beobachtung der Einsatzkomplexität ein theoretischer Rahmen entworfen. Innerhalb dieses theoretischen Rahmens konnten dann die einzelnen Perspektiven der Einsatzforschung verortet werden.

QUAD-Workshop in Bielefeld Mid-April 2018, the participating research teams of the QUAD project met in Bielefeld for a regular two-day work meeting to track process and discuss next steps. Just over 18 months in, the interview fieldwork of all teams is entering its final phase, while first empirical findings are showing their initial contours. The research teams discussed, among other topics, the comparability of national higher education reforms and their impact on performance measurement, the room accorded to treatment and patient satisfaction metrics in determining quality assessment and financial allocation decisions in the health sector, and the relative robustness of day-to-day operations in the prison sector in the face various regulatory adjustments. In the face of a recent prison crisis and ongoing public health debate in England and regulatory adjustments to the higher education financing system, some of these subjects were particularly topical. The project participants further discussed the room for collaborative article projects; a number of which are already on the way and scheduled for conference presentation later this year.

Am 13. Juni hielt Prof. Dr. Christopher Thornhill im Rahmen der Niklas-Luhmann-Gastprofessur 2018 seine öffentliche Vorlesung zum Thema "The Sociology of Law and Global Sociology".

Chris Thornhill assumes the Niklas-Luhmann-Guest-Professorship 2018 at the Faculty of Sociology. He is from the 26th May until 24th of July at the Faculty.

Chris Thornhill is Professor in Law at the University of Manchester, UK. He grew up in the north of England in the 1970s and 1980s, and he received his PhD from Cambridge University. He has previously held professorial positions in different disciplines at Kings College London and Glasgow University and visiting Professorships in Chile and Brazil. His work is positioned in the interstices between Law, Sociology, Politics and History.

For the first time in 2005, the Faculty of Sociology and the Rectorate of Bielefeld University established a Niklas-Luhmann-guest professorship. The intention of this guest professorship is to attract internationally renowned sociologists in order to offer the students and a wider academic as well as non-academic public audience the opportunity to become directly acquainted with influential and innovative theories.

As the Niklas Luhmann Visiting Professor of Sociology, Christopher Thronhill will give a public lecture on The Sociology of Law and Global Sociology on Juni 13th.

Von Regine Paul, Marc Mölders, Alfons Bora, Michael Huber und Peter Münte ist ein neues Buch zum Thema "Society, Regulation and Governance New Modes of Shaping Social Change?" erschienen.

Regine Paul (AB Recht und Gesellschaft) und Başak Bilecen (AB Transnationalisierung und Entwicklung) erhalten jeweils ein John F. Kennedy-Gedächtnis-Stipendum der Harvard University.

Der Vortrag zum Thema "Förderung von Wettbewerb durch indikatorbasierte Mittelzuweisung im deutschen Hochschulbereich - Praktiken und Grenzen" findet im Rahmen des Forschungskolloquium des Arbeitsbereichs "Recht und Gesellschaft" statt.

Suzanne In der Smitten ist wissenschaftliche Mittarbeiterin mit dem Schwerpunkt Governance in Hochschule und Wissenschaft am deutschen Zentrum für Hochschul- und Wissenschaftsforschung (DZHW) Hannover, wo sie unter anderem beteiligt war in einem Forschungsprojekt über leistungsbezogene Finanzierung im Hochschulwesen.

Argentinischer Soziologe als Georg Forster-Stipendiat an der Universität Bielefeld.

Der argentinische Wissenschaftler Dr. Santiago Gabriel Calise forscht mithilfe des Georg Forster-Forschungsstipendiums der Alexander von Humboldt-Stiftung für zwei Jahre an der Universität Bielefeld. Von Februar 2016 bis Januar 2018 gehören an der Fakultät für Soziologie die Rechtssoziologie und die Soziologie der Regulierung zu seinen Schwerpunkten. Ganz konkret untersucht er, wie Luhmanns Systemtheorie die Gesellschaftsstruktur Lateinamerikas charakterisiert hat.
