Invitation: LehrBar Online on 28th April 2022
Dear colleagues,
you are invited to join the next LehrBar ONLINE on „Diversity in Higher Education“. The event will be held in English!
It will start on Thursday, 28th April 2022, 1:00 p.m. (s.t.) to 2:00 p.m. Here you get the Zoom-Link: https://uni-bielefeld.zoom.us/j/95855858742?pwd=ak1pYityejVJMS9RRmMrazlSLzVGQT09.
This time Zeynep Demir (Faculty of Educational Science) will generate a short impulse about:
Diversity in Higher Education
As part of its diversity policy, Bielefeld University has set itself the goal of appreciating the diversity of the individuals who work, study, teach and research at the university and of promoting their different skills and competencies. Diversity is increasingly important in the context of higher education, also because the higher education environment is becoming more international and global.
Promoting diversity in higher education means valuing the diversity of all students. It means ensuring that all students can contribute to the university as part of their studies and have a sense of belonging. Only when this is achieved every student can develop creatively and make an innovative contribution to education and the teaching context. Therefore, it is important to see diversity first and foremost as an educational opportunity and resource. For higher education to embrace the potential of diversity more effectively, we need to develop strategies to promote equal opportunity - including in higher education teaching and the academic environment. This starts, for example, with language and participation.
In this LehrBar, the importance of diversity in university teaching will be presented on different levels with possible impulses for its promotion. Afterward, there will be an opportunity for joint discussion and exchange. The LehrBar is open to all interested lecturers, researchers, and students who are interested in the topic of diversity in university teaching.
Hope to see you there.
Best regards,
Team Hochschuldidaktik & Lehrentwicklung
