Wir vergeben eine Masterarbeit, bei der Sie an einem aktuellen Forschungsthema am Lehrstuhl mitarbeiten. Es geht um die Simulation der Durchsetzung (Adoption) einer Innovation, wobei verschiedene Marktparameter für reale Einsatzfälle kalibriert werden (z.B. mit Genetischen Algorithmen).

Programmiererfahrung (vorzugsweise in C, Java oder einer anderen höheren Programmiersprache) ist erforderlich. Vorkenntnisse bzgl. des Simulationsmodells oder der Genetischen Algorithmen sind nicht explizit notwendig.

In Management Review Quarterly (MRQ) ist ein Aufsatz mit dem Titel "To trust or not to trust smart consumer products: A literature review of trust-building factors" (von Oliver Michler, Reinhold Decker und Christian Stummer) zur Publikation angenommen worden. Darin wird ein Überblick zu Faktoren (z.B. Produkteigenschaften) und möglichen Managementmaßnahmen gegeben, die zum Vertrauen von Konsumenten in intelligente Produkte beitragen können.
Das Journal ist im aktuellen JourQual-Ranking des VHB als C-Journal gelistet und zählt damit zu den in der wissenschaftlichen BWL-Community anerkannten Journalen mit entsprechender Sichtbarkeit.

Den Preis für die Fakultät für Wirtschaftswissenschaften hat dabei Frau Dr. Michelle Haurand für ihre Arbeit zu "The Influence of Interactions on the Acceptance of Innovations" erhalten. In the forthcoming decade, smart products and services will transform both markets and companies. This development brings about various managerial challenges. The Conference on "Challenges in Managing Smart Products and Services (CHIMSPAS)" aims at providing an interdisciplinary research platform for scrutinizing respective managerial issues. To this end, we welcome colleagues from diverse management fields such as innovation and technology management, service management, marketing, human resources, entrepreneurship, as well as colleagues from engineering and practitioners.

The conference will take place in Bielefeld, a lovely town in the center of East Westphalia, which is the home of numerous highly successful SME with several of them being 'hidden champions' in their industries. Bielefeld University in particular hosts the Cluster of Excellence Cognitive Interaction Technology (CITEC) as well as the Institute of Technological Innovation, Market Development and Entrepreneurship (iTIME), which are concerned with engineering and economic issues of smart products and services.

We invite conceptual, empirical, and analytical works that might be presented either as regular talks or during a central poster session.
Potential contributions should be submitted as extended abstracts. Both completed research and work in progress will be considered. An award for the most influential conference contribution will be presented during the conference. Moreover, we are planning a special issue in an established academic journal after the conference. A corresponding call for papers will be made available in early 2019 (see conference website at www.chimspas-2019.de).

Authors should send their abstracts (as a pdf file with a maximum of 500 words) to the conference e-mail address chimspas@uni-bielefeld.de by April 1, 2019. There will be no publicly available conference proceedings and, thus, abstract submission to the conference do not impede submission of the full paper to a journal afterwards.

Call for Abstracts

Wünschen sich Konsumenten tatsächlich vollständig autonome Autos? Dies wird in einem eben zur Publikation angenommenen Zeitschriftenaufsatz anhand von drei ausgewählten Funktionalitäten untersucht. Dabei zeigt sich, dass (derzeit) ein mittlerer Grad an Autonomie gegenüber vollständiger Autonomie fast immer bevorzugt wird. Der Beitrag mit dem Titel "Is more automation always better? An empirical study of customers' willingness to use autonomous vehicle functions" (von Mohamed Souka, Daniel Böger, Reinhold Decker, Christian Stummer und Alisa Wiemann) wird im International Journal of Automotive Technology and Management (IJATM) erscheinen.

Das IJATM ist im Journal-Ranking JourQual3 des Verbands der Hochschullehrer für Betriebswirtschaft als C-Publikation und damit als anerkannte wissenschaftliche Zeitschrift eingestuft.

Call for Papers for a Special Issue on "Modeling and Simulation of Complex Systems" in Annals of Operations Research

Submission Deadline: February 28th, 2019

Complex systems are a common phenomenon in real-world decision making. The behavior of such a complex system stems from numerous relationships and various interactions between diverse entities of the system or between a given system and its environment: innovation diffusion on consumer markets may serve as an example. Computer simulations provide an opportunity to alter a modeled system, to observe its emergent behavior, and, thus, to answer what-if questions.

This special issue of the Annals of Operations Research aims at discussing recent advances in modeling and simulation of complex systems. Methods to be applied include agent-based simulation, multi-agent systems, simulation-optimization approaches, etc. Potential topics to consider (but not limited to) are:
(*) diffusion processes in markets, societies, or ecosystems
(*) applications in various areas including, for example, smart products, smart production systems, or autonomous production
(*) impact of peculiarities of some complex system, e.g., word of mouth or social influence
(*) parametrization and validation issues

We hope the special issue will document the state-of-the-art in modeling and simulation of complex systems and provide a framework for future research that moves the field forward by better solving relevant problems with more realistic assumptions, and by leveraging the best research in related disciplines. Researchers from all disciplines are invited to consider this special issue as an outlet to publish their high quality work on the above or related topics.

Authors should submit their manuscripts via the Journal’s online submission site (http://www.editorialmanager.com/anor/), choosing “S.I.: Simulating Complex Systems” as the article type. All papers submitted to the special issue will be peer reviewed in accordance with the standard procedures of the Annals of Operations Research journal.

Submitted papers should not have been previously published or be currently under consideration for publication elsewhere. Papers must contain original research results that are significant relative to the relevant literature.
The use of real-world data is valued. Still, submitted papers must highlight their (algorithmic) contribution to the state of the art in this field of operations research and they should discuss some simulation experiments (i.e., numerical illustrations (examples) may not be sufficient).
