School Without Ableism?! – Panel Discussion on November 27, 2024, on Discrimination-Sensitive and Inclusive Design of Schools and Society

In our society, students with disabilities continue to face discrimination and prejudice. Ableism, as a deeply ingrained form of discrimination against people with disabilities, affects not only educational opportunities but also social integration and the self-esteem of those affected. It is therefore all the more important that we, as a society, talk about these issues and find solutions. As part of the ZAB - Forum Accessibility, Andrea Schöne, Mareice Kaiser, and Prof. Dr. Martin Heinrich will discuss how to design schools and society in a more discrimination-sensitive and inclusive way.

Kick-off Event for the Alpha Release of DACHS

It’s finally here! The Alpha version of the DACHS portal is now being thoroughly tested. Thanks to the dedicated support of voluntary participants, the DACHS portal has entered its exciting first testing phase. Earlier this week at the end of september, a kick-off event took place, where the project was introduced in detail, and the first glimpses of the portal were shared.

SHUFFLE In-Person Meeting in Bielefeld: On the Home Stretch Toward Accessible Digital Education

In the fall of 2024, another in-person meeting of the SHUFFLE project will take place in Bielefeld. With the project set to conclude in December 2025, it is now on the home stretch and has already delivered numerous technical, structural, and didactic developments and measures to promote and improve digital accessibility at universities. Some of these innovations are already available as open-source tools and can be directly integrated into everyday university life.

Online conversation: Do I say it? Dealing with disability, chronic or mental illness at work

On June 27, 2024, an online discussion with Dr. Jana Bauer will take place in cooperation with the ZAB and the Career Service of Bielefeld University. The topic: How to find an individually suitable strategy to communicate or not communicate one's own disability or chronic illness in the application process and in the job. The discussion will reflect on relevant aspects of this decision-making process. Arguments will be presented to provide more clarity on how to deal with a disability or chronic illness in the work context. There will then be an opportunity to ask questions and engage in discussion.

Advice offered by SBV at the career entry fair <perspektive> : Applying with a disability or chronic illness

On Wednesday, June 12, 2024, the career entry fair will take place in the Central Hall of Bielefeld University. In addition to around 70 regional and national companies and institutions from all sectors offering insights into their companies, the Zentrale Anlaufstelle Barrierefrei - ZAB would also like to provide interested students, young graduates, doctoral candidates and postdocs from all subjects at Bielefeld University and Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences with information at the fair.

As part of the ZAB - Forum Accessibility, Ralf Stoecker, Senior Professor of Philosophy in Bielefeld, will be giving a lecture on "Diversity at eye level - On the importance of human dignity for our understanding of inclusion, diversity and participation". Since 2008 at the latest, when the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities came into force, it should be clear that everyone has the right to live in an inclusive and diverse society in which they can actively participate.

Not invisible on World Autism Awareness Day

In 2007, the United Nations designated 2 April as World Autism Awareness Day to affirm and promote the full realisation of all human rights and fundamental freedoms for autistic people on an equal basis with others. Under this year's motto "not invisible", we would like to draw attention to the more than 800,000 autistic people living in Germany alone.

SHUFFLE spring meeting in Freiburg

This year's spring meeting of the SHUFFLE project took place in Freiburg on March 21 and 22. A total of 21 people from the four partner universities Bielefeld University, Stuttgart Media University and the Universities of Education in Heidelberg and Freiburg took part.
