Narratives in/of Criminology
Narratives are a fundamental part of how society deals with crime. When something is interpreted as 'criminal' and reacted to, stories are told and thus meaningful and convincing representations of the course of events are established. Narratives are not 'truthful' depictions of social reality, even if they refer to non-linguistic reality. Rather, they are context-dependent and changeable entities that play a constitutive role in the linguistic construction of crime reality(/ies). In March, an interdisciplinary and international workshop took place at ZiF on this topic, which was dedicated to the narrative dimension of crime.
