Welche Dimensionen der Islamfeindlichkeit zeigen sich in jugendlichen Einstellungen? Wie kann das Phänomen Islamfeindlichkeit differenzierter erfasst werden? In welchem Zusammenhang stehen Dimensionen der Islamfeindlichkeit mit sozialstrukturellen Bedingungen des Aufwachsens und lebensweltlichen Erfahrungszusammenhängen im Jugendalter? Welches Wissen haben junge Menschen über den Islam?
Mit diesen Fragen beschäftigt sich die gemeinsame Studie der Universitäten Bielefeld und Duisburg/Essen.

Steffen Zdun (IKG) has published a new paper facing "The Fluid Nature of Street Culture: Non-Violent Participation, Changes in Adult Life, and Crumbling Ethnic Barriers in Germany"

This paper examines changes in the practice of street culture among non-violent young adult men. Many individuals who participate in street culture behave and talk in a pretty rough way among each other and act almost aggressively. This is done for establishing a certain reputation and self-image that relates to street culture rules and it is even widespread among non-violent players of this milieu. A comprehensive look on their behavior includes modifications of street culture practices in adult life. Another aspect of the fluid nature of street culture are crumbling ethnic barriers in this milieu in Germany. The latter contributes to further modifications, for instance, in social contacts and language use. The author provides supportive evidence from the existing literature and field work he has done in Germany.

New publication by Steven Messner and Andreas Hövermann: "Institutional Imbalance, Marketized Mentality, and the Justification of Instrumental Offenses: A Cross-National Application of Institutional Anomie Theory"

"The paper confronts the challenges associated with the development of an "integrated approach" to the micro-macro problem in criminology. The paper´s findings aim to contribute to bridging the gap between societal institutional structure and crime. Precisely, we suggest a mechanism grounded in the individual perception-choice process that undergirds moral decision-making. The paper´s results indicate that economic dominance in the institutional order of societies is conducive to widespread marketized mentalities in society. When persons adopt marketized mentalities (MM), they also become more amenable to viewing morally dubious behavior as acceptable. Prior research showed a close connection of MM with actual criminal behavior which altogether connects societal institutional structures with crime."
