UniMaps 2.0 Beta launched

UniMaps 2.0 - Alpha Testers Wanted

This year we have been working intensively on developing UniMaps version 2.0. This version represents a completely new development and is based on a new technological foundation. The UniMaps application is currently in the alpha phase.

Development of the UniMaps 2.0 version

UniMaps supports the Night of Sounds

On 30.06.2023, the Night of Sounds took place again at Bielefeld University from 19:30 to 24:00. This year, UniMaps helped with orientation and reaching the numerous stations, which were spread across the entire main building and the X-building.

UniMaps at the ICCHP-AAATE 2022

From July 11-15, 2022, ZAB participated in the Joint International Conference on Digital Inclusion, Assistive Technology & Accessibility in Lecco, Italy. Lecco brought together researchers and practitioners in the field of assistive technology and accessibility.

UniMaps iOS release

Since the end of 2021, the iOS-version of UniMaps can be downloaded in the AppStore. Barrier-free navigation is now accessible to all students. Due to numerous functions, all different facilities of Bielefeld University can be fully used and students’ lives could be made easier.

UniMaps as Best Practice on a Berlin congress

In January 2020, UniMaps was introduced on the congress 'Hochschule ohne Hindernisse - Aufgaben, Beispiele, Chancen' (university without barriers - tasks, examples, chances) as Best Practice project.

Development of IOS with accompanying project

In august 2019 the development of an IOS version of UniMaps has started. The app is anticipated to be released in the second half of 2021. The app originates a part of an accompanying project named 'Automatic Code Generation for a Cross-Platform Indoor Navigation App'.

Release of UniMaps 1.0 in PlayStore

On the 23rd of may 2019, Unimaps has left the betaphase is now available in Google PlayStore.

Decision by the rector concerning the UniMaps project

Today has been made a decision by the rector on financing the development of Unimaps for three years. The project is under the leading role of the ZAB.

UniMaps datamanagementplan has been published

On June 26th 2018, the first public beta-version of UniMaps has been published in the PlayStore.

Start of developing the UniMaps-project

Since the beginning of this month, the UniMaps-project of the ZAB - 'Zentrale Anlaufstelle Barrierefrei' will be further developed by four students as an android-version.

Green light for UniMaps

In summer 2017, students of the technical faculty have started developing an app on behalf of the 'Schwerbehindertenvertretung' (representative of the severely disabled) of Bielefeld University.

The app is planned to be used as a support for barrier-free campus navigation. The focus was on the apps accessibility for all people, with or without disability. Therefore, for example, the deselection of stairs was made possible. 

Overall twelve app designs have been developed within a contest. In the end there have been a winner and two runner ups. The prize money in the amount of 5000 euros for the three winner groups have been provided by the 'Schwerbehindertenvertretung' (representative of the severely disabled) and the 'Referat für Studierende mit Behinderung und chronischer Erkrankung' (RSB) (department for students with disability and chronic disease).
