RTG 2951 hosts the filmmaker Renzo Scolacchia and his movie “Living Labour”
The final Meeting Day of the RTG 2951 “Cross-border- Labour Markets” in the Summer Semester 2025 was truly special: Instead of meeting in a seminar room at the university, the group of international scholars and doctoral researchers from Bielefeld University and University of Duisburg Essen gathered at the cozy Salon at the Kamera Movie Theater, Bielefeld, to watch the documentary “Living Labour”.
“Living Labour” by Renzo Scolacchia offers an intimate look into the everyday lives and housing arrangements of Polish, Spanish, Roma, and other labor migrants in the Netherlands. The film shed light on the paradox entanglements of mobility and fixity, work and leisure, control and autonomy, isolation and community, nature and built environment in the lives of workers in cross-border labor markets.
The event was even more special, as the director of the movie, Renzo Scolacchia himself was present to introduce his movie and to discuss it with the RTG researchers. Renzo Scolacchia, who is an architect, urban researcher, and filmmaker, is currently based between Rotterdam and Venice.
