CIDAPE Conference on Political Emotions in Times of Crisis in Florence
From 11 to 12 March, the International Conference "Political Emotions in Times of Crisis - Climate, Inequality, and Democracy" was hosted at Scuola Normale Superiore in Florence, Italy. The conference revolved around the Horizon Europe Project CIDAPE's core questions, such as how emotional dynamics intersect with inequalities and how they shape support for and resistance to climate action.
Sonja Blum and Nora Habelitz represented the project's working package 2 located at Bielefeld University and organized a panel on emotional conflicts around energy transitions, focusing on policy narratives and inequalities. Papers were contributed by Peter Starke, University of Southern Denmark, Lovisa Mundschenk, University of Zurich, and Christopher Smith Ochoa, University of Duisburg-Essen.
Three keynote lectures by Åsa Wettergren, University of Gothenburg, Anna Durnová, University of Vienna, and Luigi Pellizzoni, Scuola Normale Superiore kicked off each day and ste the tone for eight panel discussions that followed.
The conference was a great opportunity to connect with colleagues from the CIDAPE project as well as sibling projects on emotions, politics, and public policies. Our thanks go to the local organizing team at Scuola Normale and especially to Manuela Caiani and Ipek Demirsu Di Biase!
