Ein Kolloquium aus Anlass der Verabschiedung von Professor Thomas Faist fand am 17. April 2026 im Zentrum für Interdisziplinäre Forschung (ZiF) statt. Über 90 Teilnehmer:innen aus aller Welt nahmen an diesem Treffen teil. Thema waren die bis in die 1990er Jahre zurückreichenden Beiträge von Thomas Faist zu Transnationalisierung, Citizenship und Migration - und die Bezüge zur aktuellen Forschung. Zahlreiche Beiträge spiegelten neben substantiellen Fragen und Forschungserträgen auch persönliche Erinnerungen an unerwartete und inspirierende Begegnungen. Auch ein Entwurf der Festschrift, die nächstes Jahr als Sondernummer der Zeitschrift "Ethnic & Racial Studies" erscheinen wird, wurde präsentiert. In Namen der Anwesenden überreichte ein Teilnehmer aus Ghana ein Gewand für ein Chieftain an Thomas Faist. Musikalische Akzente setzte die Gruppe "Religimuz" in einer so anregenden Weise, dass es am Schluss der Veranstaltung spontan zu einem Gespräch zwischen den Musikern und Publikum kam.

A colloquium marking Professor Thomas Faist’s retirement was held on April 17, 2026, at the Center for Interdisciplinary Research (ZiF). Over 90 participants from around the world attended the event. The focus was on Thomas Faist’s contributions to transnationalization, citizenship, and migration—dating back to the 1990s—and their relevance to current research. In addition to substantive questions and research findings, numerous presentations also reflected personal memories of unexpected and inspiring encounters. A draft of the Festschrift (commemorative volume), which will be published next year as a special issue of the journal “Ethnic & Racial Studies,” was also presented. On behalf of those present, a participant from Ghana presented Thomas Faist with a chieftain’s robe. The group “Religimuz” provided musical highlights in such an engaging manner that a spontaneous conversation arose between the musicians and the audience at the end of the event.
