Seminar "feeling at home again after migration" by Dr. Meral Gezici Yalçın
We gladly invite you to the seminar "feeling at home again after migration" by Dr. Meral Gezici Yalçın on 29 January 2019, 16:00pm, at X-E0-215.
"Feeling at home can be taken as an indicator of satisfaction of the need to be safe and comfortable in living places. Feeling at home signals being involved and included as well as entails having roots in a certain place and having attached to the city. This feeling can be broken down after migration. In this presentation, I will talk on the possibility of migrants’ ‘feeling at home again’ by focusing on their daily life activities, and on how they construct place identities. Moreover, I will refer to the empirical findings about Syrian refugees’ right to the city in Turkey, as a topical example, and its consequences on attitudes of the locals."
Dr. Meral Gezici Yalçın is currently a guest researcher at the University of Koblenz-Landau and the author of the book "Psychology of Migration".
