Call for Workshop Participation
The DeZIM and the IKG warmly invite PhD candidates, postdoctoral researchers, and senior scholars from across the social and human sciences to join us for the two-day workshop “Collective Memory, Social Identity, and Honor Concerns of Migrants from Turkey to Germany” (October 28–29, 2025 at Bielefeld University) exploring the cultural logic of honor, memory, and identity in the migration experience from Turkey to Germany.
Why participate?
This workshop offers a unique opportunity to rethink the concept of honor—beyond the narrow focus on “honor crimes”—as a deeply rooted cultural framework that shapes everyday life, social relations, and belonging, particularly in Mediterranean societies. Together, we will develop new methodological approaches to explore how notions of honor are embedded in material culture, archives, and personal heritage.
