BiCDaS talk at "Zahlen, Daten, Fritten"
As part of the digital event series "Zahlen, Daten, Fritten", Katharina Weiß (Managing Director of BiCDaS) gave a talk on "Data Gaps - and if there is no data?". The talk focused on the consequences that missing data and the resulting decisions can have on our daily lives. The "Zahlen, Daten, Fritten" event series at the University of Duisburg-Essen targets students. It addresses questions about the relevance of data literacy, careers in the field and the skills that future graduates will need.
BiCDaS supports the "Annotation with CATMA" Training School
In cooperation with SFB 1288, BiLinked - Data Literacy and BiLinked - Public Humanities, BiCDaS organises the "Annotation with CATMA" Training School on the 22nd of April in Bielefeld. The training will introduce the basic features of CATMA. CATMA is a web-based platform for collaborative text annotation and analysis. The training will focus on operationalisation and annotation practice. A project will be set up, annotation categories will be developed and a corpus will be annotated and analysed.
EuADS Summer School 2023
Registration is now open for the EuADS Summer School 2023 "Data Science for Explainable and Trustworthy AI", sponsored by BiCDaS. The EuADS Summer School 2023 will take place from Tuesday the 7th of June to Friday the 9th of June in Kirchberg, Luxembourg.
Data Literacy in summer term 2023
In the coming summer term, there will again be a variety of seminars in the Data Literacy module. For example, the seminar "Open Minds for Open Science – Eine interdisziplinäre Einführung in Open Science" deals with the basic ideas of Open Science. The seminar "Von der Datenanalyse zur Datengeschichte - Datenanalyseergebnisse adressatengerecht kommunizieren" focuses on data storytelling. The various seminars enable students to acquire data literacy.

BiCDaS will be present at this year's Open Data Day next weekend on the 4th of March. And the Open Science Networks Bielefeld will also be there. The event "VIRTUAL OPEN DATA WELT" is part of the Open Data Day and is organised by the Digitalisation Office of the City of Bielefeld. The event can be found at open.digitalsein.com.

Dr Kathrina Weiß took over the directorship of BiCDaS in January 2023. She succeeds Dr Nils Hachmeister, who previously held this position. Katharina Weiß is looking forward to the tasks ahead of her.
