From 7 June – 9 June, the PhD Conference in History: Lund-York-Bielefeld took place. This year the venue of the conference was Lund, Sweden.

During the conference 23 doctoral researchers presented and discussed their research projects, benefetting from an international context. Seven of them were doctoral researchers from the BGHS of the Bielefeld University.

Aside of the presentation and discussion of the research projects, the program also contained two round-table discussions to the topics Writing entangled histories of Europe – breaking away from national histories and Making an academic career. The program of the conference was completed by shared conference dinners, and a tour across the campus of the Lund University, Lund Downtown and the cathedral.

Across national and epochal boundaries, and across historiographical the discussions were very productive, enlightening and amusing.

• Simon Füchtenschnieder: Planning and Organising of Voyages of Research and Voyages of supply Conducted by the Royal Navy in the 18th Century Focusing on the two Breadfruit Voyages by William Bligh abroad HMAV (His Majesty’s Armed Vessel) Bounty and HMS (His Majesty’s Ship) Providence

• Theresa Hornischer: Female Intellectuals in France between the Two World Wars

• Arne Käthner: West-Germany as Neoliberal Pioneer: Transnational Conceptual Struggles about the ‘Good Society’ in the Post-War Period (1945–1963)

• Teresa Malice: The Italian Left and the German Democratic Republic. Trans-Local Contacts, Entangled Views and Reciprocal Imaginations During the Cold War (1950s–1970s)

• Niko Rohé: European Observations and Comparison in Wars of ‘Others’ in the 1890s. British, French and German Imaginations of Imperial World Order

• Rouven Wirbser: Can India also be found in Westphalia? Early Modern Jesuit Acitivity in Westphalia as a Part of the Global Catholic Missions

The young scientists were accompanied by Dr. Levke Harders and Prof. Dr. Peter Schuster from the department of history of the Bielefeld University.
