New Agreement signed in Canada: OWL and Alberta on the path to partnership
First Scientific Collaboration coming in autumn
The intended partnership between higher education institutions in the regions Ostwestfalen-Lippe (OWL) and Alberta (Canada) has become more concrete: An agreement for cooperation has been signed in Edmonton, Canada. An upcoming meeting taking place in autumn in Edmonton will help shed light on how this German-Canadian cooperation could take shape in the future.
Bielefeld University, Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences, Paderborn University, OWL University of Applied Sciences from Ostwestfalen-Lippe and the University of Alberta, MacEwan University, Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) and Concordia University of Edmonton from the Canadian region Alberta are well on their way towards a close cooperation. “Signing the agreement is another step on the road to a strategic partnership“, says Professor Dr. Angelika Epple, Bielefeld University’s Vice-Rector for International Affairs and Diversity. The regions, which are similar in structure, aim to collaborate more closely in the field of research, while additionally seeking to broaden the exchange of students and interns. Ostwestfalen-Lippe, a region leading in the field of technology, is of particular interest as a partner for Canadian education institutions in Edmonton.
The first specific collaboration is planned: Representatives of Bielefeld University, Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences and the University of Alberta will meet in Edmonton in autumn for a scientific workshop in the field of Nursing.
The initial contact between the universities came about during a Canadian lecture tour in 2014 by Bielefeld University’s Rektor, Professor Dr.-Ing. Gerhard Sagerer. Following that, in October 2016, Professor Dr.-Ing. Gerhard Sagerer, Professor Dr. Angelika Epple and Professor Dr. Christian Schröder (Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences) travelled to the region of Alberta to explore common fields of interest. In February 2017 a Canadian delegation visited Bielefeld University to speak about possible cooperation in the field of study.
