Bielefeld University seals strategic partnership with Universidad de Guadalajara/Mexico
Bielefeld University has a new strategic partner in Mexico: the Universidad de Guadalajara. The partnership was sealed in Mexico at the beginning of September by Rektor Professor Dr.-Ing. Gerhard Sagerer and the Vice-Rector for International Affairs and Diversity, Professor Dr Angelika Epple, with the Rector General of the Universidad de Guadalajara, Dr Miguel Ángel Navarro Navarro, and the Rector of the CUCSH (University Centre of Social Sciences and Humanities), Dr Héctor Raúl Solís Gadea. “This institutionalises our cooperation beyond the long-standing contact of individual faculties. Guadalajara is one of our most important international strategic partners,” says Angelika Epple.
Both universities agreed that they would like to give particular priority
this partnership and promote it further. During the visit, a joint
double degree programme at Master level was signed between
"InterAmerican Studies/ Estudios InterAmericanos" (UBI) and "Literaturas
Interamericanas" (UdeG). The programme starts in the winter semester
2018/2019. Further joint degree programmes are to follow.
The
two universities have been collaborating closely since 2005, not only in
the form of student exchanges but also the exchange of teachers and
researchers. There is an ISAP programme (International Study Partnership
Programme), for instance. In the field of research, both partners have a
coordinating role at the German-Latin American Research Centre in the
Social Sciences and Humanities, the Merian Centre for Advanced Latin
American Studies (CALAS), which was established in 2017 and is funded by
the Federal Ministry of Education and Research.
