Die Mobilisierung von rechtsgerichteten religiösen Bewegungen zur Unterstützung von autokratischen Regimen wie etwa in Bolsonaros Brasilien oder Trumps USA stellt die durch die Aufklärung errungene Laizität des Staates in Frage. Der vorliegende Beitrag analysiert die in diesen religiös-politischen Strategien inhärente identitätspolitische Logik. Nach einer Einführung zu theoretischen Aspekten von Identitätspolitiken und einer Unterscheidung von Typen religiös-politischer Strategien werden knapp besondere Charakteristika von Brasilien, Guatemala, Mexiko, Kolumbien und den USA beleuchtet. Im letzten Abschnitt wird, als Resultat der vorausgegangenen Überlegungen, das identitätspolitische Ränkespiel der religiösen Rechten mit Religionsfreiheit und Laizität entwirrt.

Nowadays, right wing religious mobilization challenges the secularity of the State, an important achievement of Enlightenment, in support of autocratic regimes as for instance Bolsonaro’s Brazil and Trump’s United States. In the present article, the author analyzes the logic of identity politics, inherent to these religious-political strategies. The article starts with reflections on theoretical aspects of identity politics and a typology of protestant actors according to their religious-political strategies. Afterwards, we briefly examine particular characteristics of Brazil, Guatemala, Mexico, Colombia and the USA. As a conclusion from these observations, in the last chapter we unravel the identity-political scheming with religious liberty and secularism.
