On 7. October, I conducted a Research capacity-building training on Preventing Violent Extremism (PVE) at the OSCE Academy in Bishkek (Kyrgyzstan). This training was designed for young scholars and civil society organizations’ staff to strengthen their research capacity in the field of violent extremism (VE) and its prevention (PVE). During the workshop, key approaches, concepts, factors and variables explaining radicalization and de-radicalization processes were introduced, the challenges faced by researchers (and evaluators) analyzing VE- and PVE-related issues were considered and the concrete roles and contributions of civil society in the field of PVE were critically discussed. Furthermore, participants had a chance to develop their methodological skills with a focus on qualitative methodology and their research proposals in the field of VE/PVE.
