Congratulations to Faculty member Christian Zumbrägel who has been awarded the 2026 Joel A. Tarr Envirotech Article Prize for his article, “Toward an Animated History of Technology: A Conceptual Introduction.”

The essay is the “Tracks in the Field” contribution to the special issue “Animals and the History of Technology,” published in Animal History (2026, no. 2) by University of California Press. The issue brings together a range of contributions exploring historical relationships between animals and technology. The prize is awarded by the Society for the History of Technology (SHOT) and recognizes innovative scholarship at the intersection between history of technology and environmental history.
