/əbˈskjʊə/
- of little or no prominence, fame, or distinction
Many musical artists release music that may not be commercial or of interest for the general listener on what is called the “b-side”, or what was traditionally the opposite side of the vinyl record from their single. These songs are obscure, not known to most people, only to serious listeners and fans. By searching out these obscure songs you can often find some amazing music and learn a lot more about a band’s artistic vision and musical capabilities."The casual listener has bought the single for the A-side, and isn't interested in the B-side. So B-sides are by reputation throwaway. They're obscure, known only to those fans willing to listen. They promise surprises. They are the dark corners of an artist's catalogue, offering musicians space to experiment."
