On 26 May, the first Doctoral Researchers' Day of the Graduate Centre took place at the recently founded Graduate and Academic Career Development Centre (GrACe) of Bielefeld University. The BGHS also had a stand. Clara Buitrago was on site, talking to people interested in doing a PhD from all over the world, and answering questions about doctoral studies in general and the BGHS programme in particular.
On the same day, the BGHS organised two further events for those interested in doing a doctorate, which Clara conducted online.
As part of the English preparatory programme for international doctoral candidates "Bridging the Gap", which the BGHS organised this summer semester, Clara provided information about scholarship opportunities in Germany. In addition, two BGHS members who are funding their doctoral research through scholarships talked about their experiences. Ji Hong successfully applied for a DAAD scholarship and Hannes Beckers won a scholarship from the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation. Participants at the event thus received first-hand information and tips.
Clara also informed people from several Latin American countries who were interested in doing a doctorate about the possibilities of doctoral funding in Germany. This event, which was held in Spanish, was organised in cooperation with the Center for Advanced Latin American Studies in the Humanities and Social Sciences (CALAS) and the Center for InterAmerican Studies (CIAS). And the interest is great: 35 interested people from Mexico, Argentina, Brazil and Ecuador took part.
It's a good thing that Clara Buitrago, BGHS' Internationalisation Coordinator, speaks fluent German, English and Spanish - and the whole world is listening.
