"Times Higher Education" Ranking: Bielefeld is the Best University in North Rhine-Westphalia
In the 2010–2011 Higher Education Ranking of the prestigious British magazine Times Higher Education, Bielefeld University is the best of all the higher education institutes in North Rhine-Westphalia. Bielefeld is the eighth best university in Germany, holds the 67th place in Europe, and 173rd place in the whole world.
This is the seventh time that the magazine Times Higher Education (THE) has published this ranking. It is based on 13 performance indicators distributed across five headline categories with different weightings for the overall score: quality of teaching (30 per cent), research reputation (30 per cent), citations (32.5 per cent), industry income (2.5 per cent), and international mix (5 per cent).
First place on the International Ranking List goes to Harvard University; the best German university in the worldwide ranking is the University of Göttingen (43rd place).
"Doing so well in one of the most prestigious international university rankings reaffirms Bielefeld University's mission to be one of the top addresses in Germany for both teaching and research", commented Professor Dr. Rolf König, Deputy Rektor of Bielefeld University and Vice-President for Financial Affairs and Resources. "This success is also an important step towards enhancing the international presence of our university."
