Bielefeld University to the Host Largest German Psychology Congress
The German Psychological Society is to hold its 48th Congress at Bielefeld University. "In 2 years, we shall be welcoming something between 2,600 and 3,000 psychologists to Bielefeld. Although most are engaged in scientific work, the German Psychological Society's congress is also becoming increasingly important for practitioners as well" says the upcoming President of the congress Professor Dr. Rainer Riemann from the Psychology Department at Bielefeld University.
The Psychology Congress will be one of the largest congresses ever to be hosted by the University in its more than 40-year-long history. The 47th Congress has just come to a close in Bremen with roughly 2,000 papers, poster presentations, and discussion groups. Organizing a conference of this size is a major challenge for both the city and the University. "We shall be working hard over the next 2 years to put together an attractive programme, publicize psy-chological research topics, and attract a great number of international guests to our congress. We also want to be a make all our visitors very welcome. I am very pleased that we have al-ready been assured of support from many sides," Riemann continues.
One major aspect of the Psychology Congress is a series of events designed to appeal to interested laypersons. People in Bielefeld can look forward to interesting papers presented by top-ranking scientists. "Such a congress also has an economic impact. In just 5 days, more than a million Euros will be spent in Bielefeld," Riemann tells us.
