“It is a truth universally acknowledged that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife.” Mrs Bennet has subjected herself fully to this maxim. When she finds out that the rich Mr. Bingley is moving into a neighbouring estate, she can hardly conceal her delight. Such a young, handsome, rich man would be the ideal husband for one of her daughters. She hopes to find more “good matches” on Bingley’s housewarming party, but not all of her daughters are very enthusiastic about their mother’s intentions. Will she succeed to fulfil her dream of finding five handsome, rich sons-in-law?
In order to revive the classic, the story is set in today’s times. Gender roles and relationships are put into perspective and displayed satirically. Although Jane Austen’s work keeps its actual shape, this adaptation invites the audience to see it from a different angle.
