George Orwell’s famous novel as play adapted by Robert Owens, Wilton E. Hall Jr. und William A. Miles Jr.
Bielefeld University’s English Drama Group presents a stage adaption of George Orwell’s classic 1984, produced by Angie Starczyk. Performances will take place every night from Monday, February 15, to Saturday, February 20, 2016, at 8 p.m. at Hörsaal 7. The performances will be in English. Admission is free.

Year 1984. The countries we know do no longer exist. The earth has been divided into three superstates – Eurasia, Eastasia and Oceania – which are in a perpetual war with each other. Big Brother, head of Oceania, keeps his people under surveillance.  His system is defended with an iron hand. War is Peace. Freedom is Slavery. Ignorance is Strength. These are the slogans which now shape everybody’s life. Hatred accompanies the everyday order. Enemies of the state are detected and exterminated.

Two rebels, Winston and Julia, seek a way out of Big Brother’s dictatorship and risk everything to join the underground rebellion. They find an ally in O’Brien, who in his leading position has the means to make changes. Yet, one thing must not be forgotten – Big Brother is watching.

George Orwell wrote his novel as dystopian science fiction. But how much of this is actually still fiction?
