Filmvorführung: Jenseits des „terra firma bias“ in den Refugee Studies
Der Filmemacher Andrianus „Oetjoe“ Merdhi stellt seinen Dokumentarfilm „When the Water Horse Seeks a New Home“ als Programmteil des Workshops: „Thinking about refugees through the sea“ (06.-08.05.2026) am 06.05.2026 an der Universität Bielefeld vor.
Dieser Film ist in der Zusammenarbeit mit Antje Missbach, Universität Bielefeld und Gerhard Hoffstaedter, University of Queensland, Australien, im Rahmen des von der VW-Stiftung geförderten Projektes “Theorising (im)mobilities at sea: Challenging the terra firma bias in Refugee Studies through human maritime movements“ entstanden. Im Mittelpunkt stehen Fluchtrouten im Indischen Ozean und die Abschottungsversuche der potentiellen Zielländer in Südostasien.

The filmmaker Andrianus Merdhi presents his documentary film When the Water Horse Seeks a New Home as part of the workshop “Thinking about refugees through the sea” (May 6–8, 2026) on May 6, 2026, at Bielefeld University.
The film was created in collaboration with Antje Missbach (Bielefeld University) and Gerhard Hoffstaedter (University of Queensland), as part of the project “Theorising (im)mobilities at sea: Challenging the terra firma bias in Refugee Studies through human maritime movements,” funded by the VolkswagenStiftung. The film focuses on refugee routes across the Indian Ocean and the containment efforts of potential destination countries in Southeast Asia.
