The Diversity of the Concept of Law

Veröffentlicht am 13. November 2017, 12:51 Uhr

At the end of september, the first workshop of a subproject in the SFB took place. The subproject B01 "Order in diversity: Practices of comparing in intercultural jurisdiction (17th to 19th centuries)" was able to win guests from, among others, Münster, Berlin, and Rio de Janeiro to talk about the multifaceted forms and contexts of the concept of law, including participants from the SFB's ranks.

Legal perspectives, e.g. from Nina Dethloff (Bonn) or Peter Oestmann (Münster), encountered historical, such as those of Cornelia Aust (Mainz) or Hanna Sonkajärvi (Rio de Janeiro). Time and again it became clear, how different terms are understood and used, for example, the negotiation process which plays a central role in the SFB.

Andreas Becker and Anna Dönecke, doctoral students in subproject B01, presented their dissertation topics in the workshop. This was also a premiere for the still young SFB and showed how exciting and diverse the field of comparative practices, in this case, regionally from South India to Lapland, is.
