Opening of the Photo Exhibition "Black Matters - Urban Photography"
Prof. Dr. Wilfried Raussert, principal investigator of subproject B02, is currently displaying photographs of his at the 'Kommunale Galerie' at 'Kulturamt Bielefeld', The exhibition's title is "Black Matters - Urban Photography". Raussert is an expert for Afro-American cultures and focuses on people in different cities of the USA and Mexico in his photographs. The images create an interrelation between human and urban culture, especially in the form of street art, mural painting, and graffiti. The photographs intend to grasp the diversity and vitality of urban life, proverbially as a fusion of human and context. They see themselves as a figurative-artistic expression of the contemporary movement Black Lives Matter. In addition, there is a catalogue with images of the photographer and texts of the jamaican-canadian poet Afua Cooper in the exhibition room.
During the very well-attended opening at the 24 October 2018, besides the comparative viewing, visitors had the chance to get into a conversation with each other about the photographs. The exhibition is ongoing until the 8 February 2019 and can be seen on workdays from 10 - 17 o'clock. It is being funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), the German Research Foundation (DFG), and the SFB 1288.
