Musical Exhibition: Fanny Hensel-Mendelssohn (1805–1847) - 21 May 2026, ZiF
As part of the UNAM Alemania Cultural and Artistic Project 2026, an exceptional evening dedicated to the composer Fanny Hensel-Mendelssohn will take place on 21 May 2026 from 19:00 to 21:00. The concert combines live piano performance with video projection and offers audiences a unique encounter with the artistic legacy of one of the most remarkable yet historically overlooked composers of the 19th century.
The internationally renowned Mexican concert pianist Monique Rasetti will present a carefully researched and historically informed interpretation of Hensel-Mendelssohn’s works. Drawing on archival studies and her experience with period instruments, Rasetti seeks to recover and disseminate part of the composer’s pianistic legacy while creating connections between music, poetry, and visual arts. The project also reflects on the historical marginalization of women composers and highlights the importance of integrating Hensel-Mendelssohn’s work into contemporary academic and artistic discourse.
The event will feature contributions by:
Monique Rasetti
Yolanda I Chirino
Wilfried Raussert
The concert is organized in collaboration with ZiF, UNAM-Alemania, CIAS, CALAS, and the Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences and Arts.
Participation is free of charge.
