International Conference on Land, Capital and Inequality in Latin America
The international research project “Turning Land into Capital: Historical Conjunctures of the (Re-)Production of Wealth in Latin America from the 19th to the 21st Century” will hold its sixth international conference on 10–11 September 2026 at the University of Bern, Switzerland.
Entitled “Of Land and Capital: Elites and the Reproduction of Inequality in Latin America,” the conference brings together scholars from Europe and Latin America to examine the historical and contemporary relationships between land, capital, wealth, and inequality in the region.
Researchers from Bielefeld University will participate alongside colleagues from the project’s international partner universities and research institutions. The conference provides a platform for exchanging perspectives and discussing research on the processes through which land and capital have shaped the production and reproduction of wealth and inequality in Latin America. The conference also serves as the closing event of the fourth Turning Land into Capital Summer School, held at the University of Bern from 7–11 September 2026.
