Frank Grüner has been a Professor of Eastern European History at Bielefeld University since 2017. His current research focuses on the history of Northeast Asia during Imperialism, Russian-European and Russian-Asian exchange relations, global and entanglement history, transcultural knowledge history of melancholy, the history of Jews in the Russian Empire and the Soviet Union as well as on the history of the Russian Empire and the Soviet Union. From 2012 to 2017, Grüner was project leader in the Cluster of Excellence "Asia and Europe in a Global Context" at Heidelberg University, where he was deputy professor for Cultural and Economic History from 2013-2014.
