The BGHS has bid farewell to the Start-up scholars of summer term 2015: Quentin Fondu, Teresa Malice, Mercy Mashingaidze, Cosmin Minea, Memory Mphaphuli und Sohaib Riaz. The six scholarship holders from France, Italy, Pakistan, Romania, South Africa and Zimbabwe worked from April until July on their dissertation proposals in a special programme geared towards the qualification of students during the period between their Master's and doctoral studies.
Each was provided with office space at the Graduate School. The heart of the 2014 Start-up programme was the Start-up colloquium, where Start-up scholars were able to present and discuss their project proposals. These regular colloquia were supplemented by writing workshops and events providing information on a variety of issues related to pursuing a PhD - from the academic working world in Germany to financing your doctoral studies.
Meetings with doctoral representatives and time slots tailored in accordance with the Start-up scholars’ needs rounded out the programme. After four months of intensive work, the Start-up scholars had finished their project proposals and applied for doctoral positions or scholarships at foreign and German universities. At the beginning of the Winter Term, they will be continuing their academic careers in Germany and abroad. In any case, they will stay in contact with the BGHS in the future.
