Paths to a non-academic career

When it comes to a career in universities, many people first think of research and teaching. However, universities also offer exciting careers in science management. A number of BGHS alumni are now working in this field, e.g. at Bielefeld University. Four of them will present their fields of activity and answer questions at the event "Paths to a non-academic career - science management at Bielefeld University" on 30 January 2025 at 2.00 p.m.:

Bastian Bredenkötter, Project Manager in the Department for Digital Transformation and Process Organisation (DT/P)

Silvia Herb, Head of Media Processing at the university library

Marie Lemser, Coordinator of international courses offered in the Department of History

Ulf Ortmann, Consultant at the Graduate Centre of the Graduate and Academic Career Development Centre (GrACe)

The discussion with Clara Buitrago from the BGHS office will include what they do, how they got their jobs, what expectations have been met (or perhaps not) and what advice they would give to people interested in a career in science management.
