New BGHS directors

Since 1 October 2016 Prof. Dr. Ursula Mense-Petermann is the new director of the BGHS. Ursula Mense-Petermann is professor in Sociology of Work and Economics at the Faculty of Sociology at Bielefeld University. Since 2013 she is part of the BGHS executive board. In November 2014 she became deputy director of the BGHS. Ursula Mense-Petermann takes the office from Prof. Dr. Thomas Welskopp, who is elected as deputy director of the BGHS for the next two years.
Thomas Welskopp is a professor in History with special consideration of the History of Modern Societies at the Faculty of History, Philosophy and Theology. Thomas Welskopp is part of the BGHS executive board since 2008, first as deputy director. He became BGHS director in 2010 and was in this position until the end of summer term 2016/17. One highlight of his work as director of the BGHS was the successful application in the second round of the excellence initiative in 2012 (funding period 2012–2017/2019).

According to the interdisciplinary concept of the BGHS, one professor from the Faculty of History, Philosophy and Theology and one professor from the Faculty of Sociology are elected as the two directors of the BGHS. The directors and the executive board are in charge of the BGHS. The directors represent the BGHS inside and outside Bielefeld University.
