Visualising research in the humanities and social sciences is no trivial matter. The BGHS dedicates itself to this challenging task in the film project "On People and Things - Science in Conversation", which was launched in April. In short films, doctoral researchers at the BGHS talk to Sabine Schäfer, executive manager of the BGHS, about their dissertation projects, everyday research work and their enthusiasm for research.
The BGHS is breaking new ground with this project and is cooperating with Filmhaus Bielefeld e.V., whose members provide the technical and creative expertise. The aim is not just to make research projects by BGHS members visible to the public. Rather, we want to jointly develop meaningful forms of expression in order to bring humanities and social science research closer to a scientifically interested, but not necessarily academic audience.
The first filming took place on 11 April on the campus of Bielefeld University. Iris Bartelt reports on her research into the International Labour Organization (ILO) and explains the role played by a key.

Lorena Albornoz's historical research project focuses on the indigenous Mapuche people and their social position in the colonial era and in the Chilean Republic. The Chile picture in front of the Audimax provides the perfect background.

The first cultural contact between the film-makers and the BGHS researchers was great fun and a complete success. We are already looking forward to the next filming day!
