Award for BGHS alumnus Edvaldo Moita
In September, BGHS alumnus Edvaldo Moita was awarded the Adam Podgórecki Prize 2024 by the Research Committee on Sociology of Law in the International Sociological Association (ISA). The prize is awarded every two years to outstanding researchers who completed their doctorate less than ten years ago and who show the potential to have a decisive influence on their academic field. The jury described his empirical research on the phenomenon of informality as "groundbreaking" and particularly emphasised the transferability of his theoretical approach: "We considered that the book's employment of a case method applying the tools of urban anthropology represents an excellent balance between individual and context dependent experience and high level theory building." Congratulations from the BGHS!
In addition, Edvaldo was appointed to a professorship in legal theory at the University of Brasília (Brazil) at the beginning of the year after prevailing over more than 100 candidates in a highly competitive process.
Edvaldo also attributes his success to his time at the BGHS and writes: "I have to thank you and the whole community of BGHS once again for giving me the opportunity to develop my research there. So this award also belongs to you." Dear Edvaldo, thank you very much for this recognition!
