Malin Wilckens has been awarded the Johannes Zilkens Doctoral Prize of the Studienstiftung 2025 for her dissertation „Schädelvergleiche und die Ordnung der Welt – Rassifizierung in der Wissenschaft (1780–1880)“ (Skull comparisons and the order of the world - racialisation in science (1780-1880)). Her work focuses on scientific practices of ‘collecting’ and comparing skulls in the interplay between global and microhistory. From this, Malin develops a new understanding of the anthropological ‘racial theories’ of the 19th century. After completing her doctorate, Malin worked as a research associate at the universities of Bielefeld and Kiel and currently holds a postdoctoral position at the Leibniz Institute of European History (IEG) in Mainz.
The BGHS congratulates her warmly!
