Academic self-government during PhD
There is a new episode of the BGHS podcast "Chances and Challenges". It asks why it makes sense for doctoral researchers at German universities to be active in academic self-government. Firstly, academic self-government enables all members of the university to contribute their perspective to the institution's decision-making processes. And secondly, it helps to familiarise oneself with the structures and people at the institution, which can also promote an academic career. Sabine Schäfer, executive manager of the BGHS, talks to Oliver Flügel-Martinsen, Professor of Political Theory and Dean of the Faculty of Sociology at Bielefeld University, about this often underestimated topic.
