How can artificial intelligence and robotics become even more strongly oriented towards human needs in the future? Researchers from Bielefeld University and the Honda Research Institute Europe (HRI) explored this and other questions during a two-day exchange (21–22 September 2026) at Bielefeld’s CITEC. The meeting focused on future joint research topics and new opportunities for collaboration. A total of 15 scientists from the University, particularly from CITEC and CoR-Lab, and from HRI discussed current and future research perspectives. One key focus was on human-centred physical AI and robotics, including robot actions and behaviour. The discussions also addressed human-AI interaction: What role do human experiences, understanding, well-being, and social and psychological aspects play when intelligent systems interact with people?

The long-term collaboration was also strengthened: Bielefeld University and the Honda Research Institute Europe have extended their Framework Agreement for another five years. Professor Dr Angelika Epple, Rector of Bielefeld University, presented the signed agreement to Professor Dr Heiko Wersing of HRI. For the TechFak, the continuation of this partnership provides an important foundation for further research at the intersection of **AI, robotics, and human-centred technology** – and for addressing questions that will increasingly shape how people interact and collaborate with intelligent systems in the future.
