Innovative Heart Mapping through Smart Sensors on the ISS space station
On July 20th, International Space Exploration Day, the University of Bielefeld presents a groundbreaking experiment. The aim is to unobtrusively monitor the cardiovascular function of astronauts on the ISS. Smart sensors, sewn into T-shirts, capture minimal movements of the chest caused by the heartbeat, and this information is sent to Earth. Professor Dr. med. Dr. Urs-Vito Albrecht is very satisfied with the promising data. For this purpose, the university cooperates with renowned institutions such as the Technical University of Hamburg and the German Aerospace Centre, Hohenstein Laboratories and the aerospace company DSI Aerospace Technology. This project marks a significant advancement in inconspicuous health monitoring in space, potentially improving the safety and well-being of astronauts on long-term missions.
