Conference Review: Project B04 at the 9th Young Linguists‘ Meeting in Poznań
Patricia Linnemann and Mariya Hristova (both B04) had the opportunity to present their research as part of the CRC 1646 at this year's edition of YLMP, the Young Linguists Meeting at the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań. The YLMP took place from 16th to 18th May 2025 and welcomed over 100 participants from 15 countries. This year's event was entitled "Integrating AI and Linguistics for the future of social interaction" and provided room for exciting research and fruitful discussions.
In their talk on “Linguistic creativity as a tool for symptom description in natural doctor-patient-interactions” Patricia & Mariya combined insights from both conversation analysis and formal linguistics. The goal was to demonstrate how non-conventionalized language helps interlocutors to successfully talk about medical symptoms and how they establish original expressions as part of their common ground. Furthermore, the talk outlined linguistic strategies employed in the creation of novel expressions.
Each of the three days of the event started with a plenary talk, given by the wonderful speakers Susanne Brouwer, Nicole Holliday, and Kasia Molek-Kozakowska, who presented research from the fields of psycholinguistics, sociolinguistics, and discourse analysis. In addition to the keynotes, Patricia and Mariya had the chance to attend many other inspiring talks and poster presentations throughout the conference. They are excited for future collaborations with researchers from the Adam Mickiewicz University!
