The 11^th Naxos Summer School on Diachronic Linguistics took place on the beautiful Greek island of Naxos in the Aegean Sea from the 19^th to the 24^th of July, 2026. This year’s focus was on theoretical and computational approaches to investigate phenomena in diachronic linguistics. The rich programme of the summer school consisted of more than 20 courses held by international experts in the field and several poster presentations prepared by the participants. The thematic and methodological input was complemented by a panel discussion on both opportunities and challenges which arise in the time of AI as well as a diverse social programme in the evening. This combination offered our researchers the possibility to connect with colleagues, for instance from the linguistic CRC 1718 on “Common Ground” in Tübingen or from Switzerland and Iceland.

Désirée Kleinberg (A06) and Marius Bartsch (X01) took courses, inter alia, in “Forecasting the propagation of language change” or “Cyclical processes in language change”, both being of great importance for the work in their projects which also focus on the propagation of linguistic innovations in a speech community and the factors that shape the diffusion of a linguistic unit.
