On Thursday, May 21, 13:00-14:00, CITEC 2.015, we are happy to welcome Prof. Beatrice Epwene (Penn State Harrisburg) for a guest lecture at CITEC. This guest lecture and workshop will address issues of news bias, mis and dis information, and a discussion about the power of modern technological tools, specifically artificial intelligence, in proffering solutions to this vexing problem. Distrust in news today is a global concern and mis/disinformation and bias in news affect every country in the world. It is, therefore, pertinent that a global approach be taken in finding solutions to deal with these issues. The session will conclude with a demonstration and a hands-on workshop assessing the ability of the mEditor, a software platform for news analysis based on journalistic canons, as one approach and a possible solution in tackling the problem. Discussions will also be held about future collaborations, partnerships and exchanges with interested faculty and departments.
