Prince Osei in Kyoto

Prince Osei is beginning his three-month research stay at Kyoto University, where he will be supervised by Chiaki Hara. During his stay, he will focus on portfolio choice and the Capital Asset Pricing Model (CAPM) within the framework of the Smooth Ambiguity Model.

New Exchange Agreement with KIER

On December 5, 2025, the IMW signed an academic exchange agreement with the Kyoto Institute of Economic Research (KIER), a premier research institution in Japan with a strong international research profile. The agreement was concluded by IMW Director Frank Riedel and KIER Director Tadashi Sekiguchi.

As part of this collaboration, Frank Riedel visited KIER from March 31 to April 3, 2026. During his stay, he presented recent research in the Microeconomics and Game Theory Study Group and initiated new joint research projects. On April 2, he gave a research seminar on Belief-Efficiency in Markets.

Further activities, including joint workshops and continued collaboration among faculty and young researchers, are planned.

Am 5. Dezember 2025 unterzeichnete das IMW ein Abkommen über den akademischen Austausch mit dem Kyoto Institute of Economic Research (KIER), einer führenden Forschungseinrichtung in Japan mit einem ausgeprägten internationalen Forschungsprofil. Das Abkommen wurde von IMW-Geschäftsführer Frank Riedel und KIER-Direktor Tadashi Sekiguchi geschlossen.

Im Rahmen dieser Zusammenarbeit besuchte Frank Riedel vom 31. März bis zum 3. April 2026 das KIER. Während seines Aufenthalts stellte er in der Arbeitsgruppe für Mikroökonomie und Spieltheorie aktuelle Forschungsergebnisse vor und initiierte neue gemeinsame Forschungsprojekte. Am 2. April hielt er ein Forschungsseminar zum Thema Belief-Efficiency in Markets.

Weitere Aktivitäten, darunter gemeinsame Workshops sowie eine fortgesetzte Zusammenarbeit zwischen Fakultätsmitgliedern und Nachwuchswissenschaftlern, sind geplant.

He gave a talk on The Geography of Job Search, Social Networks and Match Quality.

Maren Schmeck, Benjamin Bitterlich and Sven Hellbusch attended the 4th Climate, Energy and ESG Workshop in Essen from March 25 to 26, organised by the House of Energy, Climate and Finance (HECF).
Benjamin presented a poster on his joint work with Maren and Fred Espen Benth on Hedging Power Purchase Agreements, and Sven also took part in the PhD spring school on March 24.

CUDE-BiGSEM International Block Course by Fausto Gozzi

The CUDE-BiGSEM International Block Course took place at the IMW from March 23 to 31, 2026, and was taught by Professor Fausto Gozzi.
The course, titled Introduction to Optimal Control and Games in Finite and Infinite Dimensions Motivated by Economics and Finance, provided participants with insights into advanced methods at the intersection of control theory, game theory, and their applications in economics and finance.
Lectures were held on March 23, 24, 30, and 31 from 9:00 to 11:00 am.

Das Thema des Kurses lautet Introduction to Optimal Control and Games in Finite and Infinite Dimensions Motivated by Economics and Finance.

Maren Schmeck, Jonathan Klinge and Prince Osei took part at the Future Actuarial Research Workshop in Reisensburg from March 18 to 20, organized by the German Society for Insurance and Financial Mathematics (DGVFM).
Maren was part of the senior researchers team who provided valuable feedback on junior researchers’ presentations. Jonathan held a presentation on Optimal Protective Investment in the Classical Risk Model while Prince presented his work on Portfolio Selection under Ambiguity in Volatility.

20th BiGSEM Workshop

Today and tomorrow, December 15 and 16, 2025, the 20th BiGSEM Workshop takes place at the ZiF. 18 doctoral researchers from Europe and Asia will present their work in 7 sessions. Additionally, 6 BiGSEM and CUDE students present their research in the poster session.
