Palgrave Studies in Cultural Heritage and Conflict (PSCHC)

This book series explores the relationship between the heritage and memory of war and conflict, contested heritage, competing memories in the past and the present. Since the publication of Dissonant Heritages and Memories in Contemporary Europe (2019) by Tuuli Lähdesmäki, Luisa Passerini, Sigrid Kaasik-Krogerus, Iris van Huis and Landscapes of Difficult Heritage (2020) by Gustav Wollentz, the theoretical aspects of difficult heritage have been regularly touched upon by authors of this series. Recently published Mario Panico Spaces for Nostalgia. Difficult Memories and Material Consolations (2024) and Daniel Palacios González, José María Durán Medraño Redefining Monuments. Materialist Memory Theories and Radical Heritage Practices (2025) theorize difficult heritage through the notion of nostalgia and the materiality. The memory and heritage of the ongoing war also became visible in the series. Maria Kurbak's Destructive Imagination. Male Fantasies and the Emotional Roots of Russia’s War in Ukraine (2026) discusses the role of emotional heritage and the lived experiences of Russian combatants. Svitlana Biedarieva's Ambicoloniality and War. The Ukrainian-Russian Case (2024) proposes new terminology for the description of the particular colonial relationship between Ukraine and Russia.

International Conference "The Anthropology of Vietnam: Global Perspectives" Bringing Together Generations of Scholars and Forging International Outlook

The international conference The Anthropology of Vietnam: Global Perspectives happened last week week from 16 to 19 June at Dalat University, Vietnam. The conference welcomed more than 150 researchers, experts, graduate and undergraduate students from countries all over the world, including United States (US), Germany, Denmark, Canada, Australia, France, the Czech Republic, Ireland, the Netherlands, Japan, Israel, Switzerland and Vietnam.

The conference was organised by the Department of Social Work – Anthropology – Sociology of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City) (USSH-VNUHCM), in collaboration with Dalat University, University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Vietnam National University Hanoi), and the Institute of Anthropology and Religious Studies. It was supported by distinguished international academic institutions, including the Wenner-Gren Foundation, Yale University (US), Copenhagen University (Denmark), and Bielefeld University (Germany).

Moreover, the conference marked a historical moment, as it recalled the 2007 Binh Chau Anthropolgy Conference, a milestone collaboration between USSH-VNUHCM and the University of Toronto (Canada), which fostered for the research and teaching of the anthropology discipline in Vietnam. Over the past two decades, what began as a forum to "initiate dialogue" had evolved into a platform that amplified the voices of multiple generations of anthropologists, reflecting continuity and growth.

Speaking at the conference, Professor Ngo Thi Phuong Lan (President of USSH-VNUHCM) expressed the need for an international outlook: "We [Vietnam] used to be an attractive field site in the eyes of international scholars. As we approach our 25^th anniversary, we have the right and the responsibility to thrive for more. Our ambitions should extend beyond a receptive approach of an ‘anthropology about Vietnam.' We should strive to make theoretical, methodological, and conceptual contributions 'from Vietnam to the anthropology of the world.' This is the duty of the current generation and the goal for the future."

Workshop Review: Project B02 organised Workshop on “Computational Modeling of Creativity and Interactive Reference Games”

The workshop "Computational Modeling of Creativity & Interactive Reference Games" was organized by members of project B02 (Prof. Dr. Sina Zarrieß and Prof. Dr. Hendrik Buschmeier, PhD Manar Ali and Postdoc Simeon Junker). It was held on 23rd April 2026 at Bielefeld University and focused on linguistic creativity in reference games, with a particular emphasis on visual or face-to-face settings. It brought together researchers from different projects of CRC 1646 as well as several invited guest speakers. The event included research presentati-ons as well as multiple brainstorming and discussion sessions addressing technical, methodological, and theoretical questions related to the workshop topic.

The workshop opened with a talk by Sina Zarrieß (B02), who introduced the topic and presented recent work from the organizing group. This was followed by a series of short talks and discussion sessions featuring both CRC researchers and invited guests. Dr. Alon Fishman (C02), Prof. Dr. Albert Gatt (University of Utrecht), Dr. Ece Takmaz (University of Utrecht), Prof. Dr. Simon Dobnik (Universiy of Gothenburg), and Prof. Dr. Tessa Verhoef (University of Leiden) shared recent findings and ongoing research, discussing their work with particular regard to linguistic creativity.

In the afternoon, the workshop continued with several interactive sessions, both in break-out groups and in plenary. These sessions allowed attendees to explore open questions in greater depth and to identify shared challenges and possible directions for future research.

Overall, the workshop provided valuable opportunities for informal exchange among rese-archers from different disciplines, and generated a range of ideas for future collaborative projects extending beyond CRC 1646 and Bielefeld University.

Conference Review: Fabian Zöfelt (A01) at the ConSOLE34 in Pavia

The Conference of the Student Organization of Linguists in Europe (ConSOLE) is an annual conference in theoretical linguistics. ConSOLE provides an international platform for early-career scholars to present and discuss their research in an open and stimulating academic environment. The 33rd edition took place last year at the University of Göttingen. The ConSOLE34 was held on January 28-30 at the Instituto Universitario di Studi Superiori (IUSS) Pavia.

The general focus was „Movement“, with a focus on how linguistic movement manifests itself in syntax, semantics, phonology, and morphology. ConSOLE34 was featured by invited talks by Professor Gillian Ramchand (University of Oxford), Professor Andrea Moro (IUSS Pavia), Professor Vieri Samek-Lodovici (University College London), and Professor Anna Maria Di Sciullo (Université du Québec à Montréal) which addressed theoretical as well as empirical and methodological aspects.

In his talk, entitled „Factive Islands in German. Do modal particles improve the acceptability of extraction?“ Fabian Zöfelt, PhD in Project A01 reported on a study in which he examines whether or not modal particles improve the acceptability of extraction from embedded clauses headed by factive verbs such as bedauern („to regret“). The results do not support the assumption that acceptability increases. Moreover, his results also challenge previous assumptions on the islandhood of those clauses which are considered to be opaque for extraction. Fabian also outlined a derivational analysis within the generative framework that accounts for inter-speaker variation regarding such dependencies in German.

As Fabian is working on and empirically investigating long-distance dependencies, namely on cross-clausal movement and its restrictions in German, this conference was an excellent occasion to get feedback on his work and to see on what topics other researchers are currently working, especially since there were many talks analysed movement and island effects from a syntactic perspective.

"Gallery"- Komponente jetzt auch für Panopto-Videos erweitert

Videos können nun ganz einfach auf Roxen-Seiten in einer Galerie dargestellt werden. Bisher konnten in der Roxen-„Gallery“-Komponente allerdings nur Youtube-Videos eingesetzt werden. Neu ist: Nun funktioniert die „Gallery“-Komponente auch mit Panopto-Videos.

Das Vorgehen ist quasi identisch mit dem bereits bekannten: Wie bei den Youtube-Videos auch, brauchen Sie lediglich die ID des Videos und ein Vorschaubild. Die jeweilige ID kopieren Sie mit Strg+C aus der URL des Videos, dass Sie in die Webseite einbinden wollen, und setzen das kopierte Element über Strg+V dann in das entsprechende Feld in der Komponente ein.

Ein Vorschaubild laden Sie separat in den Ordner hoch und setzen dieses dann ebenfalls in das Feld der Komponente. Mit der „Gallery“-Komponente können Sie mehrere Bilder oder Videos nebeneinander platzieren: Entweder nur Videos, nur Bilder oder auch beides im Wechsel – ganz nach Gusto.

Call for Applications: Stanisław Lem European Research Prize 2026

Wrocław University of Science and Technology (Wrocław Tech) announces the Stanisław Lem European Research Prize 2026. The prize honors young researchers (under 40) for a groundbreaking discovery or significant achievement in engineering and science. The winner will receive 100,000 PLN (approx. 23,000 €).

Applications are now open. The deadline is 30 September 2026.
Documents (form, up to 3 publications, 2–3 recommendation letters, optional CV) should be sent to lemprize@pwr.edu.pl.

The winner will be announced on 15 November 2026 during the university's anniversary celebration.

Strafrecht-Seminar fördert Austausch über Universitätsgrenzen hinweg

Wie lassen sich aktuelle Herausforderungen der Strafrechtswissenschaft wissenschaftlich durchdringen? Dieser Frage widmete sich im Sommersemester 2026 das Seminar „Fragen der gesamten Strafrechtswissenschaft“ an der Goethe-Universität Frankfurt a.M. Unter der Leitung von Prof'in. Dr. Charlotte Schmitt-Leonardy und Prof. Dr. Matthias Jahn (Goethe-Universität Frankfurt a.M.) diskutierten Studierende, Nachwuchswissenschaftler*innen, Praktiker*innen und Lehrende über aktuelle Entwicklungen des Strafrechts und tauschten sich über eigene Forschungsansätze aus.

Die Strafrechtswissenschaft lebt vom Austausch unterschiedlicher Perspektiven – genau diesen Gedanken stellte das Seminar „Fragen der gesamten Strafrechtswissenschaft“ in den Mittelpunkt. Gemeinsam ausgerichtet von Prof'in. Dr. Charlotte Schmitt-Leonardy, Lehrstuhl für Strafrecht, Strafprozessrecht und interdisziplinäre Rechtsforschung, und Prof. Dr. Matthias Jahn (Goethe-Universität Frankfurt a.M.) brachte die Veranstaltung Teilnehmende beider Universitäten zu einem intensiven wissenschaftlichen Dialog zusammen.

Aktuelle Themen der Strafrechtswissenschaft

Im Fokus standen aktuelle Entwicklungen und grundlegende Fragestellungen des Strafrechts. Die Vorträge behandelten unter anderem rechtsstaatliche Anforderungen an das Strafbefehlsverfahren, Fragen der Verantwortungszurechnung im Vermögensstrafrecht, die praktische Anwendung des Beweisantragsrechts sowie aktuelle Entwicklungen im Unternehmenssanktionsrecht.

Weitere Beiträge widmeten sich der Bedeutung empirischer Forschung für strafrechtliche Dissertationsprojekte und der Legitimation konsensualer Formen strafprozessualer Verfahren. Die Themen verdeutlichten die Vielschichtigkeit moderner Strafrechtswissenschaft und die enge Verbindung von Theorie und Praxis.

Raum für Austausch und Vernetzung

Das Seminar bot den Teilnehmenden die Möglichkeit, eigene Forschungsansätze vorzustellen und in Diskussionen weiterzuentwickeln. Studierende, Promovierende, Praktiker*innen und Professor*innen brachten dabei unterschiedliche wissenschaftliche und praktische Perspektiven ein.

Abgerundet wurde das Programm durch eine Führung durch den Skulpturensaal im I.G.-Farben-Haus sowie einen gemeinsamen Ausklang in einem studentisch geführten Café. Insgesamt bot das Seminar eine wertvolle Plattform für den fachlichen und persönlichen Austausch und förderte die Vernetzung des wissenschaftlichen Nachwuchses.

Solidarität mit Prof. Dr. Christina Brüning

Der Profilbereich Geschichtskulturen ist über die Morddrohungen und menschenfeindlichen Haltungen gegen die Marburger Geschichtsdidaktikerin Prof. Dr. Christina Brüning, die in der letzten Woche medial öffentlich wurden, tief erschüttert. Wir sprechen ihr unsere volle Solidarität aus und verurteilen einen solchen Angriff auf die Wissenschaftsfreiheit aufs Schärfste. Der von der Konferenz für Geschichtsdidaktik veröffentlichten Erklärung schließen wir uns an.

Glossary covering the topics of disability, inclusion, participation and (digital) accessibility

As part of the completed DACHS (Digital Accessibility CHecking and Simulation) project run by the Accessibility Services (ZAB), a glossary has been compiled containing German terms relating to disability, inclusion, participation and (digital) accessibility. The entries are of particular importance in the higher education context.

The glossary aims to establish a common understanding of terminology and to support professional engagement with these topics. The terms explained originate from various fields, including social sciences and law, disability studies, education, higher education development, and information and communication technologies.

The definitions are based on current academic, legal and practical discourses, in particular on human rights-based approaches such as the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, the German code of social law IX and international standards on digital accessibility. In this context, disability is not understood as an individual deficit, but is viewed in conjunction with social, structural and (digital) barriers.

The glossary is aimed at anyone concerned with inclusion, equal opportunities and accessibility. It is not intended as an exhaustive list, but rather as a continuously updated reference work and a guide, helping to foster precise and thoughtful discussion about disability and participation.

We will gradually be publishing explanations from the glossary on our Instagram channel as well. So it’s well worth following us!

In this context, we would also like to mention the ZAB Language Compass. This is a manually maintained tool that checks self-written texts for ableist language and suggests respectful and neutral alternatives.

Glossar rund um die Themen Behinderung, Inklusion, Teilhabe und (digitale) Barrierefreiheit

Im Rahmen des abgeschlossenen Projekts DACHS (Digital Accessibility CHecking and Simulation) der Zentralen Anlaufstelle Barrierefrei (ZAB) ist ein Glossar entstanden, welches Begriffe rund um die Themen Behinderung, Inklusion, Teilhabe und (digitale) Barrierefreiheit enthält. Die Einträge sind besonders für den Hochschulkontext von zentraler Bedeutung.

Das Glossar zielt darauf ab, ein gemeinsames Begriffsverständnis zu schaffen und die fachliche Auseinandersetzung mit diesen Themen zu unterstützen. Die erläuterten Begriffe stammen aus unterschiedlichen Kontexten, darunter Sozial- und Rechtswissenschaften, Disability Studies, Pädagogik, Hochschulentwicklung sowie Informations- und Kommunikationstechnologien.

Die Definitionen orientieren sich an aktuellen wissenschaftlichen, rechtlichen und praxisbezogenen Diskursen, insbesondere an menschenrechtlichen Ansätzen wie der UN-Behindertenrechtskonvention, dem Sozialgesetzbuch IX sowie internationalen Standards zur digitalen Barrierefreiheit. Dabei wird Behinderung nicht als individuelles Defizit verstanden, sondern im Zusammenspiel mit gesellschaftlichen, strukturellen und (digitalen) Barrieren betrachtet.

Das Glossar richtet sich an alle, die sich mit Inklusion, Chancengleichheit und Barrierefreiheit befassen. Es versteht sich nicht als abschließende Liste, sondern soll sowohl als kontinuierlich händisch gepflegtes Nachschlagewerk als auch als Orientierungshilfe dienen und dazu beitragen, präzise und reflektiert über Behinderung und Teilhabe zu sprechen.

Nach und nach werden wir Erläuterungen aus dem Glossar auch auf unserem Instagram-Kanal veröffentlichen. Es lohnt sich also, uns zu folgen!

Im Zuge dessen soll auch der ZAB Sprachkompass Erwähnung finden. Ein händisch gepflegtes Tool, welches selbstverfasste Texte auf ableistische Formulierungen prüft und wertschätzende sowie neutrale Alternativen vorschlägt.

InterAmerican Studies Colloquium with MA thesis projects (23. June 2026)

The MA program for InterAmerican Studies (IAS) at Bielefeld University invites students, researchers, and members of the public to an interdisciplinary colloquium featuring presentations by MA students working on thesis projects that span development studies, history, literature, gender, and international politics. The event on Tuesday, 23 June 2026 (18-20hrs at E0-226 in X-Building, Bielefeld University) provides a platform for discussing current research projects and fostering dialogue across disciplines and regional contexts.

Esther Immel will present her study, "Exploring Possibilities for Decolonial Practice within Existing Development Frameworks: A Qualitative Study in Bolivia". Drawing on qualitative research conducted in Bolivia, her work examines the opportunities and limitations of pursuing decolonial approaches within established development structures. Esther Immel holds a Bachelor’s degree in International Communication and Translation and works as a student research assistant in the EU-funded project Peace and Mobilities at Bielefeld University. She also works as a freelance interpreter for the German Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF), supporting asylum procedures.

Francisco Sánchez will present in Spanish "Cuerpo y entorno en la travesía al Reyno de Chile: una aproximación microhistórica desde la teoría humoral." His research explores historical understandings of the body and environment through a microhistorical perspective informed by humoral theory. Francisco Sánchez holds a degree in Film Studies from the University of Valparaíso, specializing in screenwriting and experimental documentary.

Rafael García Roncalla will discuss in Spanish "Hombres desdibujados: masculinidades subordinadas y criminalidad juvenil en Ciudad de payasos (2011) y Transformar números en barcos piratas (2016)". His presentation examines representations of subordinated masculinities and juvenile criminality in contemporary Peruvian graphic narratives. A graduate student at Bielefeld University, García Roncalla holds a degree in Hispanic Literature from the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru. His research focuses on Latin American popular culture, particularly the representation of masculinity in graphic novels and comics.

Sezer Yasar will present "Path Dependence in U.S. Military Strategy: Historical Roots of Contemporary Escalation Dynamics in the Middle East". His research investigates how historical structures and long-term institutional developments shape contemporary military decision-making. Focusing on U.S. interventions involving Iran, he examines the interplay of democratic self-understandings, global military presence, and economic interests in producing path dependencies that continue to influence current escalation dynamics. Through this work, he seeks to contribute to a deeper understanding of how historical legacies shape contemporary forms of global power and conflict.

The colloquium highlights the diversity of MA thesis research being conducted by emerging scholars and offers an opportunity to engage with innovative perspectives on some of the most pressing social, political, and cultural questions of our time.

International Workshop: Undoing Militarized Narconarratives (from 22 to 24 June 2026)

From 22 to 24 June 2026, the Center for Interdisciplinary Research (ZiF) at Bielefeld University will host the international workshop "Undoing Militarized Narconarratives: Outlines of the Popular in Illegalized Markets".

Bringing together leading scholars and practitioners from Latin America, Europe, and North America, the workshop explores how dominant narratives about drugs, violence, and security shape contemporary forms of governance and social inequality. The event takes place within the framework of the Long-Term Research Group Dimensions of Regulation: Conceptualizing the Popular in the Drugs/Violence Nexus. Participants will critically examine how prohibitionist policies and militarized approaches to drug control influence everyday life, public discourse, and political institutions. Moving beyond conventional “war on drugs” perspectives, the workshop seeks to develop new ways of understanding popular economies, informal markets, and the social realities surrounding illegalized activities.

The program features contributions from internationally recognized researchers, including Rita Laura Segato, Seth Harp, Luci Cavallero, Luca Trenta, Teresa Jobson, David Barrios, Mary Ryder, and Luis Córdova. Through interdisciplinary dialogue, the workshop will address questions of violence, regulation, security, social justice, and the production of knowledge about illicit economies. By bringing together perspectives from anthropology, sociology, political science, history, cultural studies, and journalism, the workshop aims to foster critical debate on the relationship between drugs, violence, and democracy in contemporary societies.

It offers a unique opportunity for scholars, students, and interested members of the public to engage with current international research on one of the most pressing political and social issues of our time.

Book Presentation with Rita Laura Segato at Bielefeld University (24 June 2026)

On 24 June 2026, CIAS and IZG will host a special book presentation featuring renowned anthropologist and feminist thinker Rita Laura Segato at Bielefeld University.

The event celebrates the publication of the German translation of her influential work Die elementaren Strukturen der Gewalt (The Elementary Structures of Violence), a groundbreaking analysis of gender relations, violence, human rights, and power from the perspectives of anthropology and psychoanalysis.

Segato’s work has had a profound impact on contemporary debates about gender-based violence, coloniality, and social justice across Latin America and beyond. During the event, she will discuss the central arguments of the book together with the translators, offering insights into the intellectual and political contexts that shaped this important publication. The presentation will be followed by a conversation with the audience.

A commentary will be provided by Heidemarie Winkel (Bielefeld University), and the discussion will be moderated by Ana Miranda Mora (Utrecht University), one of the translators of the volume. The event will be held in English and is organized in cooperation with the Focus Area Contestations of Gender and Democracy.

Die Regisseurin Yolanda Cruz, die bereits mit Filmen wie *2501 Migrants* und *Hope, Soledad* international Aufmerksamkeit erlangte, wird persönlich anwesend sein und nach der Vorführung für ein Gespräch mit dem Publikum zur Verfügung stehen. *La Raya* erzählt eine bewegende Geschichte über Identität, Zugehörigkeit und die Erfahrungen von Menschen, die zwischen verschiedenen kulturellen Welten leben. Der Film wurde 2024 in Mexiko produziert und verbindet eindrucksvolle Bilder mit einer sensiblen Auseinandersetzung mit Migration, Familie und Gemeinschaft. Die Vorführung findet in der Originalfassung auf Spanisch und Chatino mit englischen und spanischen Untertiteln statt. Sie bietet die seltene Gelegenheit, einen aktuellen Film des mexikanischen Kinos kennenzulernen und zugleich mit der Filmemacherin über Entstehungsprozess, Hintergründe und die im Film behandelten Themen ins Gespräch zu kommen.

Neues Serverzertifikat für eduroam

Für den Authentifizierungsserver radius-eduroam.uni-bielefeld.de wird am Dienstag, den 23.06.2026 ein neues Serverzertifikat aktiv. Dieses Zertifikat ist Bestandteil des Authentifizierungsvorgangs im WLAN eduroam.

Für Benutzer*innen ist dies transparent, sofern die WLAN-Konfiguration mit dem CAT-Tool oder der geteduroam-App installiert wurde. Zusätzliche manuelle Eingriffe am eigenen Notebook oder Smartphone sind i. d. R. nicht erforderlich.

Wurde das WLAN hingegen manuell konfiguriert, erscheint typischerweise die Aufforderung das neue Serverzertifikat als vertrauenswürdig zu akzeptieren (z. B. unter Windows oder Apple iOS ↓ siehe unten ↓).

Zur Kontrolle sind unten die öffentlichen Daten des neuen Serverzertifikats aufgeführt. Sollte sich ein WLAN-Gerät im Einzelfall gar nicht mehr verbinden wollen, sollte die Verbindung mit den oben erwähnten Tools neu konfiguriert werden, siehe Abschnitt „Anleitungen“ unter:

Beim Verbindungsversuch mit eduroam kann nachfolgende Meldung angezeigt werden. Dort zunächst auf "Zertifikatsdetails anzeigen" und mit den öffentlichen Daten (Fingerabdrücke) des neuen Zertifikats abgleichen. Sind diese korrekt, auf "Verbinden" klicken.

Falls keine Zertifikatsaufforderung erscheinen sollte und die Verbindung nicht hergestellt werden kann, ggf. nochmals auf das WLAN eduroam tippen, um die Zertifikatsaufforderung zu erzwingen.

Sprachblog #4: Emilie Sitter (A05) über menschliche und künstliche Kreativität

Wer schon mal mit ChatGPT versucht hat, zu dichten, wird sich vielleicht fragen, ob menschliche noch von künstlicher Kreativität zu unterscheiden ist. Und wenn das so wäre: Woran ließe es sich festmachen? Diesem Thema widmet sich die Doktorandin Emilie Sitter in ihrem Beitrag zum Sprachblog auf unserer Sprachschmiede.

Warum wir Kunstwerke in der Regel als weniger kreativ beurteilen, wenn sie von einer KI erschaffen wurden, hat, so Emilie, damit zu tun, dass wir ihnen weniger Authentizität zuschreiben. Das Beispiel, das Emilie in ihrem Post analysiert („Es war ein stilles Land, hingetupft zwischen sanften Hügeln und träumerischen Flüssen…“), wurde vom Publikum im Rahmen der letzten Geniale bei den Wissenshappen „Autor: ChatGPT?“ in der Wissenswerkstadt bereits sehr angeregt diskutiert.

Emilie zeigt in ihrem Beitrag dabei auch, wie im Projekt A05 sprachliche Kreativität in literarischen und nichtliterarischen Werken vergleichend untersucht wird.

Digitaler Studierendenausweis in der "Meine Uni"-App

Ab sofort gibt es etwas Neues in der „Meine Uni“-App: den digitalen Studierendenausweis. Damit stellt die Uni eine Alternative zur bisherigen Plastikkarte bereit, die Studierende überall dort einsetzen können, wo sie bislang ihren Ausweis präsentiert haben um sich als Student*in auszuweisen: Im Kino, an der Theaterkasse, im Museum, etc. ... Einzige Ausnahme von der wir bereits wissen: Das Studierendenwerk akzeptiert den digitalen Universitätsausweis nicht, wenn Sie sich also in der Mensa als Student*in ausweisen müssen, benötigen Sie weiterhin Ihre Unicard.

Der digitale Studierendenausweis hat eine eigene Kachel in der „Meine Uni“-App bekommen. Er zeigt das Uni-Logo, den Namen, die Matrikelnummer und den aktuellen Einschreibestatus. Studierende im Studium „Staatsprüfung Medizin“ erhalten hier einen separaten Hinweis auf ihre Einschreibung, damit sie sich in den Universitätskliniken ausweisen können. Der Ausweis funktioniert auch dann, wenn das Telefon nicht online ist.

Wir starten mit dem digitalen Ausweis in eine Erprobungsphase, in der wir gemeinsam mit möglichst vielen Studierenden Erfahrungen sammeln wollen. Wir möchten deshalb alle Studierenden darum bitten, den neuen Ausweis überall dort zu testen, wo sie sich als Student*in ausweisen müssen und ihre Erfahrungen mit uns zu teilen. Was funktioniert gut, was schlecht? Wo stößt man auf Widerstand und wo auf Begeisterung? Gibt es Stellen, die die digitale Variante nicht akzeptieren und darauf bestehen, eine physische Karte vorgelegt zu bekommen? Was sind Kritikpunkte, die geäußert werden? Gibt es Vorteile, im Vergleich zur Plastikkarte?

Booster K1 Visits MAS

On June 11, 2026, we were pleased to welcome Demi Peng from Booster Robotics to our working group. She was accompanied by the humanoid robot Booster K1.
For us, it was a special opportunity not only to get to know the robot up close, but also to try it out and control it ourselves.
We were particularly pleased by the high level of interest: More than 30 people came to our showroom, including many colleagues from CITEC. It was great to see how full the room was and how much discussion arose about current developments in humanoid robotics.

Thank you very much to Booster Robotics for the exciting visit and the opportunity to experience Booster K1 in person!

Piano Concert Impressions: Monique Rasetti performing Fanny Hensel-Mendelssohn (1805-1847)

Mexican pianist Monique Rasetti, a full-time professor at UNAM Faculty of Music, performed works of Fanny Hensel-Mendelssohn (1805–1847) at ZiF in May.

The sister of the renowned composer Felix Mendelssohn was severely limited by the expectations of her family and society at the time, which required her to prioritise her role as a wife and mother over any artistic aspirations. For Monique Rasetti, Hensel-Mendelssohn plays a particularly significant role in her career. For her, disseminating Hensel-Mendelssohn's music in concerts and sharing it with students represents a form of historical justice, given this reality.

The aim of the concert therefore was to rescue and disseminate part of the pianistic legacy of the composer Fanny Hensel-Mendelssohn and to incorporate it into the academic and artistic spheres. Drawing on her research in historical archives and her study of period instruments, Monique Rasetti did not only offer an informed and insightful interpretation of Hensel-Mendelssohn's music. Illustrated by a selection of historical paintings and images, she also introduced the audience to the time and biography of the composer.

The concert was realized by ZiF, UNAM-Alemania, CIAS, CALAS and the University of Applied Sciences and Arts, Bielefeld.

Booster K1 zu Besuch bei MAS

Am 11. Juni 2026 durften wir Demi Peng von Booster Robotics in unserer AG begrüßen.
Begleitet wurde sie durch den humanoiden Roboter Booster K1. Für uns war es eine besondere Gelegenheit, den Roboter nicht nur aus nächster Nähe kennenzulernen, sondern auch selbst auszuprobieren und zu steuern.
Besonders gefreut hat uns das große Interesse: Über 30 Interessierte kamen in unseren Showroom, darunter auch viele Kolleg*innen vom CITEC. Es war schön zu sehen, wie voll der Raum war und wie viel Austausch rund um aktuelle Entwicklungen in der humanoiden Robotik entstanden ist.

Vielen Dank an Booster Robotics für den spannenden Besuch und die Möglichkeit, den Booster K1 live zu erleben!

Master IISY - From Seminar Project to Scientific Publication

What began as a pilot study as part of the compulsory seminar ‘Scientific Research Methods’ on the Master’s programme in Intelligent Interactive Systems has now led to a successful academic publication.

During the seminar, Master’s students developed an initial pilot study, carried it out and prepared the results for academic publication. The findings were initially submitted as a conference paper and published as a preprint. However, the students were not discouraged by an initial rejection. Instead, they used the feedback constructively, expanded the study to include a larger number of participants and comprehensively revised the article. The improved paper was subsequently submitted to the journal Frontiers in Psychology. After several rounds of peer review, the study was finally published – a remarkable achievement that impressively demonstrates scientific perseverance, teamwork and commitment (link to the publication).

We warmly congratulate Hakki Egemen Gülpinar and Anastasiia Skryzhadlovska on this publication and are delighted to see this outstanding example of how high-quality research papers can emerge from teaching modules. We wish them every success in their future research and careers, and look forward to many more exciting scientific achievements. The research was supervised through a collaboration between the Social Cognitive Systems and Cognitive Neuroscience research groups, supported by the Faculty of Technology.
